A special double-screening of multi-award winning In the Rearview and innovative short film Murals at Rich Mix.
Premiering at Cannes and winning many awards on the festival circuit, including the Grand Jury Award at Sheffield Doc Fest, In the Rearview is the feature debut from Maciek Hamela, who has been evacuating Ukrainians since the first days of the Russian invasion. The film is based on the stories of the ordinary people he saved, told by them in the tight confines of his van, travelling thousands of kilometres along uncertain roads towards Poland. Whether mourning the abandonment of their cow, looking at the beach or taking an iron to his wife we see the different ways the travellers cope with their trauma, focused, like their driver, on reaching a temporary place of safety.
The film was shortlisted for a 2024 Academy Award in the Documentary Feature Film category
