We Film the People
The heroes of this story are Polish artists who revolutionized cinema by filming their country's history between 1971 and 1981. How did they manage to circumvent the regime or collaborate with Party officials? Was a pact sealed? This film is a journey through excerpts from lost films and cult classics, rediscovered archives, and testimonies from the greats of Polish cinema: those who shaped it as filmmakers, actors, and cinematographers, and those who did so on the side of the Party-State: dignitaries, ministers, and film executives. "We Film the People!" tells the exceptional story of a political and artistic liberation within the Soviet bloc, or how the Solidarity movement found itself in Cannes…
