Reflecting on his own beginnings as a documentary film maker and the sometimes impossible reconciliation between the priorities of life and art this was Krzysztof Kieślowski’s international breakthrough masterpiece, gaining prizes at festivals in Moscow, Chicago and Berlin.Now established as a classic comedy drama, rooted in the everyday, it was written specifically for then rising actor Jerzy Stuhr. He plays Filip Mosz, the factory worker whose developing passion to record on film gradually takes over his life, with implications on his freedom. Watch out for a brilliant cameo by Krzysztof Zanussi as himself and an early score by Krzysztof Knittel.
