New Polish Cinema in 2025

Every year, the New Polish Cinema strand comprises some of the finest and most thought-provoking cinema of the past year. The strand highlights the voices of both established filmmakers and debut directors across large and small budget productions, presenting a powerful snapshot of Poland's contemporary film scene.

So many of the key, acclaimed works in this year’s New Polish Cinema strand explore the process of making a change: sometimes political, sometimes personal, sometimes cultural. By daring to push the boundaries, new discoveries have been made in science. Taking a risk on a relationship can result in better personal understanding. Other cultures offer perspectives on dealing with trauma.

In times of political change many citizens face decisions that they had never imagined and which will affect their future and that of their families. Both our drama and documentary selections highlight how individuals caught in wider crises are challenged to reflect on fundamental realities and their own core values.

This year's New Polish Cinema screenings will be screened at the following venues: Barbican, BFI Southbank, Cine Lumiere, ICA, The Garden Cinema.
