This year's 22nd Kinoteka Polish Film Festival is proud to present a particularly diverse array of titles, from stories based on real life events through to dramas, thrillers, comedies and biographies, and both traditional and avant-garde titles, which will be presented alongside Documentaries, curated Polish Cassics, Animations & Virtual Reality works. While presenting an exciting programme of compelling and challenging cinema, Kinoteka also continues to explore the innovative filmic output Poland has to offer through special events including guest-led intros, Q&As and more. A highlight this year includes a Late Night rave party at the Southbank Centre, inspired by the 90s Polish Rave Scene, which is introduced during an earlier film screening.
Every year the New Polish Cinema Strand comprises some of the finest and most thought-provoking cinema of the past year. The strand highlights the voices of both established filmmakers and debut directors across large and small budget productions, presenting a powerful snapshot of the country’s contemporary film scene.
Whether starting out in professional life, discovering previously hidden aspects of your family history or pushing through boundaries that others have set for you, our New Polish Cinema titles this year offer the opportunity for new beginnings and a reappraisal of identity. Often using genre to support the structure of their stories, directors have been bold and collaborative. Emerging talents and established voices have tackled challenging subjects with compassion and an eye to listening and learning. It’s an exciting time when historical drama can rub shoulders with off-beat comedy and both feel super relevant to contemporary life.
This year's New Polish Cinema screenings will be screened in partnership with The Prince Charles Cinema, ICA, Richmix, Cine Lumiere and Watermans Arts Centre.
We hope you enjoy watching them as much as we do.
